For Volunteers’ Week, we’ve started to look back at a busy 2016-17 volunteering year here at Warwick. This is the second part of our highlights of the year. Click here to find out what happened in Term1.
In Term 2 volunteers started running their sessions in schools in Coventry, Kenilworth, Leamington Spa and Warwick. Just to name a few:
Nursery children have learned how to count in French with the Language Tutors.
Primary school pupils have learned some key chess strategy with the Chess Club.
And how to bake cupcakes with Bake it Up!
Secondary students have studied Nation of Terry Pratchett with the help of our Student Tutors
We’ve celebrated the Chinese New Year at Queensway Court, a residence for the over 55s, and with Kenilworth Phab on campus.
In February we took part in Student Volunteering Week, a week of celebration to thank all the students who are involved in their communities. For the occasion, we organised a Sharing your experience competition, and students shared their most memorable volunteering stories. Click here to read their stories
Our Exec has also held a career event, inviting Warwick students and alumni to share their career experiences in the charity sector.
Students have taken part in a range of one-off activities, such as helping refurbish YMCA accommodation in Coventry and walking dogs at Kenilworth Dogs Trust.
That term we also started to help at the Food Union Community Allotment.
In March we ran several activities for Go Green Week, including a big Canal Clean Up in partnership with Coventry University.
Our Celebration Event on 16th March marked the end of a successful term. We gathered with students, community partners and friends to celebrate the amazing achievement of student volunteers and deliver the Warwick Volunteer Awards. You can read more about the Awards winners here.
That evening, we were sad to say goodbye to our old Exec but excited to welcome the newly elected members on board.
