It’s that time of year again- the Volunteering Fair, where all the many different volunteering opportunities that exist for students gather in the Panorama Room so that people can find out more about what’s on offer, and sign up for different projects. But with so many different projects to choose from, it can seem overwhelming, which is why we hope this blog post will help you get the most out of the fair, and even help you to have fun!
In today’s series of blogs celebrating Student Volunteering week, I (Simon- Media and Comms officer) will be discussing a few of the ways I’ve been able to have an impact on the local community!
Warwick Volunteers has approximately 45 projects under it and the variety is absolutely amazing. In my 2nd term of my 1st year at university, I had Wednesdays free and thought I should do something meaningful. I browsed through the WV project page and filtered projects that did not need DBS(since I was so late!) and were on Wednesdays. Even with such strict restrictions, I found ‘Tocil Woods’ that fit my needs perfectly.
Hi! 🙂 during my second year I decided to do something different with my time and ran for a position on the WV exec and it has been one the best things I have done at university. Before getting involved with the exec, the only team-based work experience I had been involved with at university was group projects and that’s not exactly well-known for being a lot of fun. Working within a exec team for a whole year has certainly been a learning curve and I’ve gained so many transferable skills that I can carry with me out of university.

Warwick Volunteers are currently looking for people who are interested in joining the executive committee for the 2016-7 academic year! With this in mind, we thought it would be a great opportunity for the current exec to reflect on their roles this year, and to hopefully make the role a little clearer to anybody who is thinking about running to be on the exec this year! We have done this in two parts, this week and last week. This week, Yuan (Vice President), Karolina (Project Leader Support Officer) and Lucy (Media and Comms Officer) will reflect on their experiences.
